Czech army buys 4,000 pocket camouflage Bibles

The Czech army has purchased 4,000 pocket editions of the Bible with sand camouflage covers, the daily Lidové noviny reported on Wednesday. The military paid some 1.8 million crowns for the books which were bought without a tender. A spokeswoman for the General Staff of the army the Czech Biblical Society was the only firm that holds the rights for publishing the ecumenical edition of the Bible; that is the sole translation that can be used by all Christian denominations in the military.

Ius primae noctis or the “right of the first night,” sometimes known as droit de seigneur, is a legendary right which was supposedly held by feudal lords. According to the terms of this right, the lord of the manor had the right to the marriage bed on the first night of a serf or peasant's marriage. Although numerous stories about ius primae noctis can be found, and the concept has been used as a plot device in many films and novels, some historical evidence strongly suggests that this right never existed.

Priscilla Klaus

Just watched Priscilla Queen of the Desert, and a mighty fine bus she is too. I thought it untopable until I read Cesky rozhlas news just now.

The German press has reported that President Vaclav Klaus never received the Konrad Adenauer Prize, which he threatened to return last week. Mr Klaus wrote to the foundation last Thursday saying he would return the prize to protest their cancellation of a appearance by one of his former advisors at an upcoming conference. The president's website also says he received the award in 1993. However, the Frankfurter Algemeine has revealed that Mr Klaus never received the prize, and was only awarded an honorary diploma by the foundation's Prague branch, which it says was seeking good relations with then Prime Minister Klaus.

I think the President's website should read Wikipedia. It clearly states that the last prize was awarded in 2001, and its list of laureates unequivocally includes not one Vaclav.

Time I goed to New York to see Priscilla live on stage. What say you?
